Here Is Every Movie Coming to Disney+ in July 2024 (2024)

As the hottest parts of summer creep closer, many will likely want to remain inside where the air is cool. Thankfully for Disney+ subscribers, there will be more than enough films of every genre to occupy their time. With everything from comedies to dramas, the streaming service will most definitely be the place to go next month as audiences search for scores of movies worth watching.

With one Disney+ original slated to hit the platform next month, parents should gear up for a fun family movie night. However, family-friendly films aren’t the only movies headed for Disney+ in the coming weeks, especially if you have the Hulu add-on service. The streaming service might be the place to go for children, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something for everyone, including adults. Whether viewers have kids or don’t, Disney+ has them covered with an array of options in July.

The Namesake

Stream on July 1 (Through Hulu Add-on)

Based on Jhumpa Lahiri's novel of the same name, The Namesake follows Gogol Ganguli (Kal Penn), the son of Indian immigrants. His lifelong desire to fit in among his fellow New Yorkers has often trumped his family's efforts to maintain their traditional ways. Now grown, Gogol wishes to legally change his name without understanding its significance or how it might affect his parents.

Caught between the life he wants for himself and the life his parents want for him, Gogol has always kept his mother and father at a distance. Unwilling to embrace his heritage, he fails to understand the hardships and experiences his parents have endured to be where they are today. After a tragic life-changing event brings the Ganguli family together, it’s possible Gogol might begin to see his own life through the eyes of his parents and finally grasp the trials and tribulations it took for his parents to be where they are. The Namesake is streaming on Disney+ through Hulu on July 1.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a family-friendly action adventure that follows the beloved hedgehog named Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he teams up with his new pal, Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) yet again to save the world. When the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns to Earth with a new ally named Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba), Sonic and Tails are the only things that stand in their way.

With their sights set on finding a powerful emerald that can create or destroy civilizations, Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles emerge as the biggest threat facing the planet. However, Sonic and Tails subsequently embark on their own journey to find the jewel first and save the world from such a doomed fate. With humanity facing an imminent demise, Sonic must use his unstoppable speed and strength if he hopes to defeat the evil forces threatening to destroy everyone and everything he cares about. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is streaming on Disney+ through Hulu on July 1.

Descendants: The Rise of Red

The fourth film in the Descendants franchise, Descendants: The Rise of Red, is a musical fantasy that follows Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), and Chloe (Malia Baker), the daughter of Cinderella (Brandy Norwood), as they team up to save Auradon after the Queen of Hearts stages a coup. By using the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, the pair devise a plan to travel back in time to prevent the entire event from happening.

Unfortunately, they accidentally travel back further than they anticipated to a time when both their mothers were teenagers at The Merlin Academy. To their surprise, they encounter a young Queen of Hearts, known as Bridget (Ruby Rose Turner), who has yet to become evil. When they realize Ursala’s younger sister, Ulyana (Dara Reneé), is the reason Bridget eventually becomes such a malevolent queen, the pair vow to change the past. However, by messing with the fabric of time, their choices could have grave consequences. Descendants: The Rise of Red is streaming on Disney+ on July 12.

Angels in the Outfield

Angels in the Outfield is a family-friendly comedic drama about a foster child named Roger Bomman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a mom who is no longer alive and a dad who no longer wants to be around. After his father leaves him behind yet again, Roger prays for his favorite baseball team, the California Angels, to win the pennant because he believes it’ll help reunite his family.

Arguably the worst team in the league, their luck changes when Roger’s prayers are answered thanks to actual angels who’ve been assigned to help the team win. When an angel named Al (Christopher Lloyd) tells Roger he’s the only one who can see them, those around him find it hard to believe. However, as the team begins to rack up more wins, it becomes harder to deny that something miraculous is happening. The film also stars Danny Glover, Tony Danza, Brenda Fricker, and Matthew McConaughey. Angels in the Outfield is streaming on Disney+ on July 15.
